Tuning in

We are all antennae for creative thought. Some transmissions come on strong, others are more faint. If your antenna isn't sensitively tuned, you're likely to lose the data in the noise.

...

Most of the time, we are gathering data from the world through the five senses. With the information that's being transmitted on higher frequencies, we are channeling energetic material that can't be physically grasped.

...

How do we pick up on a signal that can neither be heard nor be defined? The answer is not to look for it. Nor do we attempt to predict or analyze our way into it. Instead, we create an open space that allows it. A space so free of the normal overpacked condition of our minds that it functions as a vacuum.

G’day, and welcome!

I am Marcus Verrall, a curious technologist (nerd) at heart and a pragmatic leader by trade. Building things is what excites me the most. I read. I write. I’ve occasionally been accused of being a rational optimist. I believe that leadership is a process to be worked on, not a position to be held. I believe that the past teaches lessons and the future leaves clues.

I’ve been a stage manager, production manager, producer, project manager, architect, developer, strategist and liaison. Since pivoting my career towards internet technologies in 1996, I’ve worked with telcos, media companies, retailers, utilities providers, financial services companies and consulting firms.

Since 2017 I’ve gone deep on personal insurance, helping to bring a modern operating model, product offering and technical solution into the light, looking after technology, delivery and data teams from incubation, through start-up mode and into scale-up territory.

I enjoy finding, hiring and coaching/directing high-potential people, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement, and finding efficient ways to solve complex and meaningful problems while never reinventing the wheel.

I have a bias towards building clocks over telling the time.
